UPDATE: Trigg County Sheriff’s deputy shot, suspect dead following high-speed chase

CADIZ, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a reported officer-involved shooting in Trigg County.

According to a uniform citation, KSP’s Critical Incident Response Team was requested by the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday to investigate an officer-involved shooting that had occurred at about 11:50 a.m.

Troopers say a preliminary investigation found KSP troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the 42-mile marker of Interstate 24 eastbound when the vehicle fled the scene.

Authorities say the pursuit continued into Trigg County, where the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office joined in pursuing the vehicle.

According to troopers, the vehicle involved crashed near the 65-mile marker.

The suspect then ran away, authorities say, and began shooting at law enforcement, striking one deputy.

Troopers say three deputies fired their agency-issued firearms, shooting the individual.

The suspect, identified as Jermaine Terrell Jackson Jr., 21, of Florissant, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene.

One deputy was injured and transported to a medical facility, where officials say he is in stable condition. No further injuries have been reported at this time.

 

CADIZ, Ky. – A Trigg County Sheriff’s deputy was shot following a police pursuit.

WKDZ Radio reported a police pursuit that began in Caldwell County and ended in Trigg County on Tuesday morning.

The chase started at the 47-mile marker in Caldwell County after police attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Police say the driver accelerated to over 100 mph and took exit 65 (Cadiz) off the interstate.

The suspect crashed the vehicle on Broadbent Boulevard and allegedly fired shots at law enforcement.

Police at the scene told WKDZ there was no longer an active threat, and the Trigg County Coroner was contacted.

A Trigg County Sheriff’s deputy was shot during the incident with the suspect. Sheriff Aaron Acree told WKDZ the deputy was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville and is in stable condition.

Kentucky State Police will be leading the investigation of the officer-involved shooting.
