UPDATE: Investigation into death of 1-year-old continues in Scottsville
ALLEN COUNTY, Ky. – The Scottsville Police Department and Allen County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of a 1-year-old.
Monday, the teams responded to a complaint of an unresponsive child on Cottage Drive.
Lifesaving measures were performed on the child, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, authorities say.
The mother of the child, Alexandrae Price, and Devan Williams were arrested and charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child 12 and under. Authorities said Price knowingly acted out of negligent abuse by allowing the child to live in health hazardous conditions.
The Scottsville Police Department released a statement on its social media platform:
“The investigation is active and ongoing. Additional criminal charges are anticipated as the investigation continues. We will remain committed to seeking justice for this child and will provide additional updates when appropriate.”
Days prior to this incident, the department also made a post about child abuse, warning abusers that Allen County does not stand for the abuse of a child.
In the text the department stated, “Child abuse has no place in our community, if you see something, hear something or suspect something, please speak up.”
Detective Wayde Knox with the Allen County Sheriff’s Office said that child abuse and any other form of danger to children have serious consequences.
“It’s a shame that it goes on period in our community, but we want to make it know that the Sheriff’s office as well as the Scottsville police department is no longer going to sit back or watch these individuals act in a way that is inappropriate to our children,” Detective Knox said.
In the report News 40 obtained, it stated that Price admitted that the living area had flies and spiders. Authorities also mentioned that the child was living in a garage, lacking water sources but using a water hose outside and living near a large amount of trash found in the living area with a bad air quality.
“We feel confident in the charges that have been placed so far. We are confident that once we receive these test results and some further information from the community, we will be able to have a better determination on what took place,” Detective Knox said.
Now, detectives will be at the Scottsville Police Department from 6am to 5pm Friday and are asking for any information that could lead to justice in this case.
“We’re just really looking to speak with anybody that knows the family, has been around the family, has been around the child within the last week or so,” Detective Knox said.
Alexandrae Price is being held on a $40,000 bond.
