Norton Children’s unveils new helicopter
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Norton Children’s “Just for Kids” transport team has unveiled a new helicopter to help get critically ill children to care faster.
The new EC145 helicopter features updated technology, including new communication and GPS systems.
It also features a new patient-loading system that Norton says is the first of its kind in the region.
The helicopter will be used to transport critically ill and injured children to urgent pediatric care.
Health officials say the upgrades could make a major difference when every minute counts during an emergency.
“Every minute matters. Every moment counts. These kids count on our team to get specialty care to the bedside and then get them back to Norton Children’s even faster,” Norton Children’s transport services manager Amy Ball. “We can get to those kids in need across the entire state much faster and provide the care they need more quickly. That’s why this aircraft is so important to our team.”
The Norton transport team has already completed more than 400 helicopter transports in 2026 and believes the upgrades will help the crew work even more efficiently.
