TN man accused of killing KY state trooper transported to Warren County, appears in court

UPDATE (Sept. 29 9:10 a.m.) – Murder suspect Emonnie Branch appeared in court Tuesday morning in Warren County.

Judge Kimberly Geoghegan denied bond during the arraignment.

Branch will return to court Friday at 8:45 a.m. for a preliminary hearing.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Tennessee man accused of killing a Kentucky State Police Trooper during a traffic stop was transported to Warren County Tuesday morning.

According to the Warren County Regional Jail website, 51-year-old Emonni Branch, of Portland, Tennessee, was booked into the jail at 12:40 a.m.

Branch allegedly shot and killed 28-year-old Trooper Hayden Phillips, of Glasgow, after a traffic stop on I-65 in Warren County on Monday afternoon.

Branch fled police for several hours before being arrested in Louisville Monday evening, according to Kentucky State Police Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr.

Branch is charged with murder of a first responder (peace officer) and was served an outstanding arrest warrant.

He is scheduled for arraignment at the Warren County Courthouse at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
