UPDATE: Suspect in fatal Campbell Lane shooting allegedly shot victim as he ran from altercation, police say
UPDATE 10 PM:
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – On Saturday at approximately 2:15 p.m., the Bowling Green Police Department responded to a reported assault and shooting in the 700 block of Campbell Lane.
Callers advised that they heard several gunshots and a person had been shot.
When officers arrived, they located 17-year-old Michael Whitfield, who had sustained several gunshot wounds.
Whitfield was transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green for treatment. He was later pronounced dead.
BGPD says detectives identified 24-year-old Treonte Patterson, of Bowling Green, as a suspect in the shooting. Authorities located Patterson in the area and he was transported for questioning.
Detectives say Patterson and Whitfield were in an altercation when Patterson retrieved a handgun. Patterson allegedly fired shots at Whitfield as he ran away, striking him multiple times.
BGPD says one of the rounds fired struck an uninvolved vehicle with seven people inside. No injuries were reported.
Patterson was arrested and charged with murder, seven counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and first-degree criminal mischief.
The investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE 8:37 PM:
24-year-old Treonte Patterson, of Bowling Green, has been identified as a suspect in Saturday’s shooting in a parking lot outside of JC’s Barbershop near Kroger on Campbell Lane.
Patterson is charged with murder, wanton endangerment, and criminal mischief.
UPDATE: 6:04PM:
Police are releasing the name of the victim, Michael Whitfield, and confirm that he has died as a result of his injuries
Whitfield was only 17 years old.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Police responded to a shots fired call just after 2pm on Saturday, after two individuals were in an altercation inside a barber shop on the corner of Campbell Lane and Nashville Road.
The fight continued out into the parking lot where one male shot another male.
The victim is being treated at a local hospital.
Two additional cars were hit by stray bullets.
One person has been detained as a result of the shooting.
BGPD, WCSO, EMS and BGFD responded to the scene.
JC’s Barber Shop released a statement Saturday evening:
