BREAKING: Trooper dies after shooting on I-65 North in Warren County, suspect reportedly in custody

UPDATE Sept. 28 at 4:15 p.m.:
WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – According to a message broadcasted over cable, a Blue Alert has been issued for Emonnie Branch.
The alert states Branch is wanted for allegedly “assaulting a law enforcement officer in Smiths Grove” on Sept. 28 at 2:47 p.m.
Branch is described as a black male with dreadlocks that may be traveling in a blueish-gray 2025 Honda Civic with a temporary tag of TN018596.
Branch is considered armed and dangerous, according to the alert. If he is seen, the public should not approach Branch and should call 911.
UPDATE Sept. 28 at 3:48 p.m.:
WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police has confirmed Trooper Hayden Phillips, Unit 369, has died after patrolling I-65 in Warren County.
The agency states Phillips was part of KSP Post Three. Glasgow News 1 additionally reports Phillips was previously an officer with the Glasgow Police Department.
According to a social media post by KSP, Phillips was a graduate of Cadet Class 103.
Col. Phillip Burnett Jr. further stated, “His dedication to duty and commitment to the Commonwealth will not be forgotten. Our hearts break for Trooper Phillips’ family, loved ones, and fellow troopers as we grieve this tremendous loss. We will carry his memory with us, honor the life he lived and the badge he wore, and stand together as an agency to support this family in the days ahead.”

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – The suspect vehicle involved is described in a public safety alert as a blueish-gray 2025 Honda Civic with temporary tag TN018596. The vehicle was reportedly last seen at I-65 NB at the 75-mile marker.
Authorities say the individual should be considered armed and dangerous. If seen, the public should not approach this individual. Call 911 immediately.
I-65 Northbound at the 38-mile marker remains shut down as of around 2:40 p.m., according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District Three.

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Multiple agencies have responded to a trooper-involved shooting that reportedly occurred on Interstate 65 North at the 39-mile marker in Warren County.
According to the Kentucky State Police on X, a trooper-involved shooting occurred Monday afternoon.
Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower confirmed Warren County deputies responded to the scene.
In addition, News 40 crews on scene have confirmed a heavy first responder presence, including Warren County Emergency Management, the Kentucky State Police and EMS.
Drivers are being rerouted to take Exit 30. The section of the interstate on scene is shut down.
Additional details are not confirmed by officials at this time.
