Glasgow, Ky – The city of Glasgow held a Memorial Day remembrance service Monday morning.

Several Barren County officials spoke on the importance of recognizing the true meaning of this day and shared stories of loved ones who served.

Organizers say it is important to have events like this one to shine a light on the history of its community.

“It means a lot to the community to know our military history and heritage here in Marin County. And Marin County does have a very rich history. And veterans and prior wars and past, and a lot of veterans in this area are really veteran proud,” said Matt Mutter of the Barren County Veterans Association.

Organizers also shared the importance of informing the younger generation not to forget the sacrifices made by those who serve.

“The biggest thing is to remember that, I mean, Memorial Day and the sacrifices given to us from previous generations is not something we should waste. I’m afraid so many times now that in America we forget about those sacrifices and understand that what was given to us is something that should be cherished and not taken for granted,” Lieutenant Colonel Morgan Brown.

“Today, I hope everybody took away the fact that they remember, you know, at least once a day or every once in a while, they remember what that sacrifice meant and that they do something during the day to make sure it was worth it,” he added.

Brown says Memorial Day is not just the unofficial start to summer and should be used as a day of remembrance.
