Mother in critical condition, daughter dead after shooting, abduction in Ohio County
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police is releasing new details regarding a fatal shooting and abduction incident in Ohio County Wednesday.
According to troopers, a preliminary investigation shows the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on New Cut Road in Ohio County for a welfare check involving a possible domestic violence threat.
Deputies say they made contact with 37-year-old Tracy Peace at her mother’s home at 726 New Cut Road in Whitesville.
Authorities say Peace told them she was “okay and did not anticipate any issues with her estranged husband.”
Later that day, authorities say Peace’s “estranged husband,” 30-year-old Jonathon Severs of Owensboro, arrived at the home.
Troopers say the preliminary investigation indicates Severs shot a resident in the home before placing Peace in his vehicle and fleeing the scene.
Authorities say a short time later, deputies found Severs in the New Cut Road area, resulting in a vehicle pursuit.
According to troopers, near the 9700 block of Morgantown Road, Severs’ vehicle crashed head on with a DSCO patrol vehicle.
Following the crash, authorities say gunfire was exchanged between Severs and DSCO deputies. Severs was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.
Peace was also found dead inside the vehicle, troopers say.
The OCSO is investigating the shooting that occurred at the New Cut Road residence. The victim was transported by air to University of Louisville Hospital and remains in critical condition. according to authorities.

WHITESVILLE, Ky. – One woman is in critical condition, and her daughter is dead after a reported shooting and abduction incident in Ohio County on Wednesday, authorities say.
According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, Daviess County deputies responded to a request for assistance from the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office involving an armed male subject.
Authorities say the subject had reportedly shot a woman and abducted her adult daughter from a residence in Ohio County.
Deputies say upon locating the subject, a vehicle pursuit resulted. The pursuit stopped in the 9700 block of Morgantown Road, authorities say, where the subject exited a vehicle while armed with a handgun.
Authorities say the armed male subject was shot by law enforcement.
According to authorities, the woman who was shot in Ohio County was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition. The abducted woman was found dead from a gunshot wound in the subject’s vehicle, authorities say.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
No Daviess County Sheriff’s Office deputies or other civilians were injured during the incident, authorities say.
The Daviess County Fire Department, Daviess County Public Safety, Kentucky State Police, Whitesville Fire Department, Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, AMR Ambulance Service, Daviess County Coroner’s Office, Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch and Ohio County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch assisted in the case.
