Barren County mother and daughter cited on 18 counts of animal cruelty
A mother and daughter in Barren County have been cited on over a dozen counts of animal cruelty.
One of the responding Glasgow Animal Control Officers, Shelley Furlong, describes the scene as heartbreaking.
“You do get angry but you’re not going to show that. You’re going to be professional about it. It’s heartbreaking to see some that when you in, you see litter boxes that have not been cleaned in days, no sign of food or water.”
On Friday, three Glasgow animal control officers and a Barren County sheriff’s deputy responded to an animal complaint on Kino Eight-Eight Road in Barren County.
“One of our officers did observe through the window a black cat and two deceased kittens,” Officer Furlong says.
Officers obtained a search warrant and say they found even more—malnourished and deceased.
“We found seven cats outside, two cats on the inside in the living room and kitchen, and a momma cat with five deceased babies in the bathroom.”
Jennifer Graves, 41, and Breanna Sexton, 22, were cited to appear in court on 18 counts of 2nd degree cruelty to animals.
BRAWA employees say following medical examinations, three of the cats will hopefully be available for adoption next week.
