Franklin police chief answers general questions from the community
FRANKLIN, Ky. – This past week, the Franklin Police Department took to Facebook and invited the community to submit questions for police chief Roger Solomon, who now is providing some answers.
On Friday, the department shared a video of Solomon sharing information based on the entries they received.
First, the chief stated the department does not have quotas and does not make revenue off of tickets. In fact, Solomon said no agency in Kentucky makes revenue off of traffic tickets, which he says is a common misconception.
When it comes to training required for police, Solomon says it depends on the type of training.
He says officers have to do 40 hours of in-service every year at a minimum. He says they additionally have to qualify two times a year, which include daytime and low-level light qualifications. Typically, on average, he says they have about 70 to 80 hours of training every year.
On a national level, one person asked where the first police department was established, which Solomon says was in Boston, Massachusetts in 1838.
Solomon also says Kentucky does not have any laws preventing trains from parking across roadways.
One past program, the Police Explore program, involved an internship type of program for high school students 18 and under, according to Solomon. He says the department has not done this for some time but currently has no immediate plans to reenact the program.
