UPDATE: New details released surrounding shooting of Bowling Green officer

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – New details have been released involving a death and the shooting that injured a Bowling Green officer.
According to a release by Kori Beck Bumgarner, the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the Eighth Judicial Circuit, officer Matt Davis with the Bowling Green Police Department responded to America’s Car Mart on July 6, 2023 to a report involving Esteban D. Lowery.
During contact with Davis, the release states Lowery brandished a handgun before firing multiple shots at Davis, striking him multiple times.
Davis sustained serious, life-threatening injuries from the gunshot wounds, the release states.
During this incident, the release states Lowery was subdued by a bystander at the scene.
Upon clearing the scene, Lowery was found dead, and it was later determined he died from injuries he suffered while being subdued, according to the release.
The release says the Kentucky State Police conducted an extensive investigation of the circumstances that led up to and followed the shooting of Davis and Lowery’s death.
The release further states this investigation included a review of security and officer worn body camera video footage, forensic and ballistic analyses of the scene, medical evidence and multiple witness interviews.
According to the release, the results of the investigation were presented to the Warren County Grand Jury on Oct. 30. Following the presentation, the release says the Warren County Grand Jury concluded there was not a sufficient factual or legal basis to levy criminal charges regarding the death of Lowery.
The Commonwealth respects the decision of the Grand Jury and considers this criminal investigation closed.
