Local law enforcement shares driving advice amid risk of deer crossing

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – With the holiday season fast approaching, many people will be eager to get on the road and start their vacations. However, you must also keep in mind who else might be on the road – deer.

Now is also the beginning of the deer rutting season when they travel distances to find mates. As you are diving, it is important that you remain aware of your surroundings, look out for animal crossing signs and slow down your speed.

If you are unable to avoid an animal, Warren County sheriff Brett Hightower says, albeit sad, there is a way to keep yourself the safest.

“You know, you see a deer in the road, as bad as it may be, it’d be better just to hit the deer than it would be to overcorrect and send your car into some type of roll and/or go into the pathway of another motor vehicle,” Hightower said.

Hightower says that deer strikes do increase this time of year, and to always be vigilant because they can show up on any road in any part of the county.
