BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kentucky Department of Veteran Affairs, along with state and local officials, celebrated the latest milestone in construction of a veterans center Friday at the Kentucky Transpark.

The KDVA first broke ground on the 80,000 square-foot skilled nursing facility in November 2022. The Robert E. Spiller Bowling Green Veterans Center will serve veterans with disabilities in south-central Kentucky.

Officials also thanked legislators for the $28 million in operating funds allocated in this year’s session.

This funding will provide much-needed services to our nation’s heroes in need of care in the area, according to a release from the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce.

Rep. Michael Meredith, Kentucky House, remarked, “It is an honor to witness the growth and development of this crucial facility. Our veterans deserve our utmost respect and the best care we can provide. This celebration marks a pivotal step towards fulfilling our promise to them.”

Warren County’s judge-executive also shared what this facility will mean to the community.

Judge-executive Doug Gorman said, “Today, we gather not only to celebrate progress but also to reaffirm our commitment to our veterans. This facility will stand as a beacon of our community’s gratitude and respect for their sacrifices.”

This new veterans center in Bowling Green will be the fifth in the state.

The other four are the Carl M. Brashear Veterans Center in Radcliff, Kentucky, the 120-bed Eastern Kentucky Center in Hazard, Kentucky, the 156-bed Western Kentucky Center in Hanson, Kentucky, and the 285-bed Thomson-Hood Center in Wilmore, Kentucky.
