Metcalfe student earns National Beta scholarship

Colton Huffman

EDMONTON, Ky. – A Metcalfe County student is being recognized nationally.

On Tuesday, high school senior Colton Huffman was named one of the top five National Beta Scholarship winners.

More than 2,700 students applied both nationally and internationally for the scholarship. Five students receive the awards.

Huffman was awarded $6,000.

Selection of National Beta Scholarship winners is based on criteria based on academic excellence, demonstrated leadership, commendable character, school and community service, as well as National Beta involvement.

“National Beta members are among the top students in their respective schools. We’re thrilled that our program defrays some of the expense of these students’ first year in college and helps bring them closer to the attainment of their goals,” said National Beta CEO Bobby Hart.

National Beta awards more than $300,000 in scholarships to outstanding members in the 12th grade each year.
