BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A second healthy newborn has reportedly been placed in a baby box at the Bowling Green Fire Department at 385 Lovers Lane.

Safe Haven Baby Boxes says the newborn was placed earlier this week. In February, the first healthy newborn was surrendered at this location.

“This newborn was clearly loved by the parents who chose to keep their baby safe,” Safe Haven Baby Boxes stated in a release. “This baby box worked exactly as designed, and the infant was pulled from the baby box in just over four minutes.”

Fire officials confirm care was provided to the baby soon after the surrendering.

Safe Haven says the process was anonymous, safe and legal.

In a release, the Bowling Green Fire Department stated, “The mission of the Bowling Green Fire Department is to serve, save and protect. To make it better. The mother’s courageous decision to surrender her baby in the safe location provided here at our fire station allowed for the mission to be met once again. From the Bowling Green Fire Department to the surrendering mother of this baby, we say, ‘thank you.'”

The newborn is currently in custody of Child Services for the state of Kentucky, according to Safe Haven.

Safe Haven says this is the third newborn this year surrendered to the baby box program in Kentucky. For any parent who needs to know their resources they can call the National Safe Haven hotline at 1-866-99BABY1.
