Morgantown man arrested after reported vehicle pursuit ends in wreck

RADCLIFF, Ky. – A Morgantown man is charged with fleeing police in Hardin County on Friday.

According to a uniform citation, on Sept. 18, a citizen notified Radcliff police about a male allegedly pulling on handles in the parking lot of a Walmart at 1165 Walmart Way.

Authorities say an associated vehicle left the parking lot.

Police say they attempted to stop the vehicle after it began speeding through a parking lot. However, officers say the vehicle traveled north at a high rate of speed and refused to stop.

Authorities say while continuing north, the vehicle collided with a chain link fence at the Fort Knox gate.

Officers say the vehicle then fled south, and they terminated the pursuit.

Authorities say a short time later, Vine Grove police located the vehicle driving recklessly on North Wilson Road and attempted a traffic stop. According to police, the vehicle again began to flee.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle wrecked at a dead end road on South Atcher Street, authorities say.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Logan Phelps of Morgantown, was taken into custody.

Authorities say they later learned the vehicle had also struck a residence on South Atcher Street, along with two vehicles at the end of the road.

According to officers, Phelps admitted to consuming two beers about an hour before driving. Following a preliminary breath test, authorities say Phelps was not found to be over the legal limit.

Phelps was arrested and faces charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), reckless driving, first-degree criminal mischief, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle prohibited, operating on a suspended or revoked operators license, no registration receipt and no registration plates.

He remains at the Hardin County Detention Center.
