U.S. 31-W Bypass to have repaving, reconfiguration project
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A future of change is in store for U.S. 31-W Bypass in Bowling Green.
A project aims to repave and reconfigure part of the roadway from a four-lane road to a three-lane road with a center turn lane, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3.
The project is expected to begin Sunday night.
KYTC is advising drivers to be ready for lane closures throughout the area over the next weeks.
According to a 2020 traffic analysis by the Bowling Green-Warren County Metropolitan Planning Organization, U.S. 31-W Bypass has a crash rate of nearly three times the state average of similar road types. KYTC says the roadway has an average daily traffic volume of more than 18,000 vehicles.
In addition to the wider center turn lane, KYTC says the project will include improvements in the form of wider travel lanes, more space between drivers and the curb, bike lanes, fewer lanes for pedestrians to cross, a new signal configuration at the Broadway and Bypass intersection and left turns permitted at the 10th Avenue intersection.
