Warren RECC explains rolling outages ordered by the TVA
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Over the holiday weekend, you probably noticed your power was cut off a few times.
While frustrating, energy officials tell us there was a reason behind the inconvenience, and they had crews on standby in case of power issues.
“Regardless of whether or not it’s a holiday or a weekend, we always have crews ready to roll, and we were prepared for the cold, we were prepared for any outages,” Kim Phelps of Warren RECC said.
As winter wrecked its way through the United States, many people faced issues with their electricity.
The Tennessee Valley Authority, like many power suppliers, was not exempt from these brutal winter temperatures. The TVA attempted to keep up with the high energy demands this past weekend.
“TVA has relied on the support of these partners throughout this event to minimize the impact on communities throughout the region by directing them to reduce their power use,” said TVA chief operating officer Don Moul.

Over Christmas weekend, if you noticed your power going in and out, it was due to efforts to help the grid stay up and running.
Phelps said the TVA asked them to reduce a percentage of the load they’re using. This resulted in those rolling outages that dimmed some Christmas lights.
However, Phelps clarified these rotating outages lasted 15 minutes and did not hit everybody at once.
