Big food pantry restock in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Just Serve, an organization out of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for the second year in a row, helped out Bowling Green’s community in a big way.
News 40 talked to a couple of people involved in the restock today, and they were both happy to see it be such a success. Glenda Becker, who is with Just Serve and the Latter-Day Saints, said last year she learned about the organization through a friend and was able to secure a semi load of food last year and this year.
Becker told us that Bowling Green is eligible for three years of deliveries, but next year, all the trucks are already scheduled, so she’s doing her best to work something out as this year. The food was split between seven churches as opposed to last year’s four.
Tim Witthuhn with the State Street United Methodist Church also helped facilitate the distribution this year, saying approximately 36,000 pounds of food were dropped off to help out with food security.
According to Witthuhn, food pantries across the community have seen in August and September an increased volume of two to three times the amount of people looking for support in the way of dry goods. Witthuhn said that food pantries take donations through the year, for anyone who would like to contribute.
