Metcalfe County transportation director earns statewide rookie award

EDMONTON, Ky. (WNKY) — Metcalfe County Schools Transportation Director Britt Young has been named the 2026 Rookie Transportation Director of the Year by the Student Transportation Association of Kentucky.
The award, presented during the organization’s annual conference, honors a transportation leader who has made a significant impact in a short amount of time.
According to a release from Metcalfe County Schools, Young began his career in student transportation in October 2017 as a school bus driver. He was promoted to driver trainer in July 2022 before becoming the transportation director in July 2025.
Award presenters said Young has quickly built strong relationships with drivers because of his approachable leadership style and his desire to never stop learning.
The changes Young has implemented have greatly improved operations, increased driver morale and enhanced efficiency throughout the transportation department, the school district said.
