634 pounds of pills gathered from Warren Co. Drug Task Force’s Drug take back program
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Warren County Drug Task Force held a drug take back event over the weekend, and the collection numbers are in.
Unfinished prescription bottles often remain in your medicine cabinet for months and years collecting dust, taking up space and a lot of people want to dispose of them.
This past weekend, Warren County disposed of 634 pounds of pills through the task force’s Drug Take Back program.
You should not flush medication down the toilet, as that allows those medications to enter our waterways.
You should not simply toss out extra medications either, as that is unsafe.
So, the drug task force holds a biannual Drug Take Back program.
They collect the prescription medication and take it to be safely incinerated in an environmentally safe manner.
“Well, the big thing is to get it off your shelf if you’re not using it. And, particularly, what we target are the controlled substances, the pain meds, because that’s what people can become accidentally addicted to. And, it’s also a target for people to break into your home or for people in your home to even steal those and you don’t want to become an accidental drug dealer,” said Tommy Loving, the executive director of the Warren County Drug Task Force.
If you missed this past weekend’s event, don’t worry.
There are also disposal boxes at each of the local law enforcement agencies offices as well available daily.
