BG Parks and Rec announces new Sepak Takraw courts

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Parks and Recreation is announcing the opening of their new Sepak Takraw courts at Pedigo Park.

Sepak Takraw is a fast-paced Southeast Asian sport that combines elements of volleyball, soccer and gymnastics and is played on a badminton-sized court using a woven rattan or synthetic ball.

The sport is also known as Chinlone, or caneball, and is the traditional, non-competitive national sport of Myanmar (Burma) that blends athletic skill with dance.

Over the weekend,  members of the various ethnic communities celebrated the grand opening of the courts.

The celebration featured traditional Karen [kah-REN] dances performed by area youth, traditional food and a Chinlone tournament.
