WKU Soccer’s McDonald named CUSA Defensive Player of the Week
WKU Athletics Press Release

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Graduate Midfielder April McDonald was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week by the league on Tuesday. The Hilltoppers improve to 2-0-2 on the season.
McDonald helped lead the Hilltoppers to a 1-0-1 record during the second week of the season, accounting for two of WKU’s three goals across the two matches. In a 1-1 draw against UAB, McDonald gave the Hilltoppers an early 1-0 lead, finding the back of the net with a header from a corner kick that bounced over the goalkeeper and into the top-right corner. She followed that performance with another header against Ball State on Thursday, putting WKU on the board in just the third minute of play. The goal ultimately proved to be the game-winner.
McDonald also anchored the Hilltoppers’ defense from her midfield position, helping WKU secure its third shutout of the season against Ball State while limiting the Cardinals to just five shots.
