BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A man is in jail and a child has been taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center following a hit-and-run collision Saturday.

According to the police report, the child was riding a motorized scooter while wearing a helmet and stopped when the driver of a Toyota Camry, 21-year-old Tyohn Powell of Bowling Green, struck the child.

The report states that Powell checked on the child, who was unconscious, but then fled the scene without rendering aid or waiting for officers to arrive because his license was suspended.

According to his citation, officers located Powell, who they say smelled of alcohol and blew a .121 on a breathalyzer.

The Med Center also obtained a blood sample from Powell as evidence.

The Toyota Camry has been secured as evidence.

Powell is lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail and is charged with second-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident with failure to render aid for serious physical injury, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and with a suspended license. He was lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail.

The child was initially taken to the Medical Center of Bowling Green but was transferred to Vanderbilt for continued treatment.
