WKU Football: Freshman TE Simon shows potential in season opener

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Before the 2019 season began for WKU Football, no one really knew the name Joshua Simon.

Simon, a freshman from Dalzell, South Carolina, came into fall camp listed as an offensive lineman, standing at 6’5 and 235 pounds.

Tyson Helton saw a way to better use Simon’s size – moving him to tight end.

That move paid off in the Hilltoppers’ season-opening loss to Central Arkansas.

In his debut, Simon had three receptions for 53 yards and one touchdown.

Helton certainly wasn’t surprised by the true freshman’s performance given the potential he saw from him throughout their fall practices.
