Will McCoy steps down as head coach of Greenwood boys basketball

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Will McCoy is officially stepping down as head coach of Greenwood High School’s boys basketball team.
That’s according to an announcement Friday morning.
McCoy is reportedly stepping down to take the lead role at Franklin-Simpson.
McCoy coached the Gators for seven seasons, taking the job back in 2019.
The Gators would go 121-92 in that span, finishing above .500 in five of those seven years.
In one of the toughest districts in the 4th Region, McCoy was able to lead the Gators all the way to the championship game during the 2021 season.
Most recently, the Gators went 23-8, and McCoy was named the 4th Region Coach of the Year by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.
He is now set to fill the coaching vacancy for the Wildcats after longtime head coach Dee Spencer, looking to bring more hardware to Simpson County in the 13th District.
Franklin-Simpson shared the following statement Friday morning:
“Franklin-Simpson is proud to announce the hiring of Will McCoy as our new boys head basketball coach. McCoy comes to FSHS after serving as head coach at Greenwood High School where he amassed 121 wins in those seven seasons and was recently named the 2026 KABC 4th Region Coach of the Year. There will be a press conference on Monday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the FSHS Performing Arts Center to introduce Coach McCoy.”
