Warren Co. Emergency Management hopes to use drones in near future
Warren County’s Department of Emergency Management is one step closer to getting some eyes in the sky.
At Friday morning’s Fiscal Court meeting, Emergency Management Director Ronnie Pearson told magistrates the department’s plan to use drones is moving along.
After Pearson’s remarks, Fiscal Court voted to approve a policy procedure manual for drone usage by county officials and departments.
People within Pearson’s department are being trained to fly the drones.
Emergency management hopes to utilize drones during events like search and rescue missions.
"You can put them in areas that are dangerous to an individual," Pearson said. "We can make sure the scene is safe for entry by an individual and therefore, reduce exposure to that officer, firefighter and whatever it might be."
If all goes to plan, Pearson hopes to begin using drones sometime after the first of the year.
