Urgent: Eastern KY schools need coat donations
Letcher schools says many without warm clothes
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With this cold snap in the air, many, many Eastern Kentucky flood victims are heading into the winter without warm clothes.
Kentucky Association of School Administrators coordinated with Letcher County schools, who says some of their students and families experiencing homelessness from the flood, and the need for coats is urgent.
KASA needs your help to collect upwards of $100,000 worth of coats to for 33 Eastern Kentucky school systems.
Warren County Public Schools is one of many organizations supplying drop-off locations where you can bring new winter coats, hoodies, gloves and hats for ages preschool through adult.
KASA Executive Director and coat drive organizer Dr. Rhonda Caldwell said, “The pain has subsided a little bit, especially for those of us who aren’t connected to it: we’re not in the middle of it. But it’s still there, and it’s still very real. If we can take the burden of a coat away from a family, then we’ve done our job.”
When the coat drive ends next Wednesday, all of your donations will head over to Eastern Kentucky in time for December’s freeze. Head over to KASA’s website for a list of drop off locations around the Commonwealth.
