Suspect in Portland domestic assault investigation flees police, arrested in Simpson County

PORTLAND, Tenn. – The Portland Police Department (PPD) responded to a domestic assault complaint leading to a pursuit Friday.

According to a social media post, officers arrived at a home in Portland to investigate the incident.

The officers determined that the suspect, 38-year-old Joseph McDorman, fled the scene.

McDorman was located in a vehicle and fled police. Officers say they pursued McDorman until terminating the pursuit at the Kentucky state line.

PPD says the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) located McDorman at a hotel in Franklin a short time later.

SCSO deputies located suspected fentanyl in McDorman’s possession, according to the post.

McDorman was arrested and charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl), possession of drug paraphernalia and fugitive from justice in Simpson County.

PPD is charging McDorman with two counts of domestic assault, evading arrest by motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, aggravated reckless driving, driving on a revoked license violation of the financial responsibility in Tennessee.

The investigation is ongoing.
