Simpson County judge-executive lifts burn ban following rain

Burn Ban

SIMPSON COUNTY, Ky. – A burn ban is lifted in Simpson County following rainy conditions over the weekend.

According to an executive order signed by Simpson County Judge-Executive Mason Barnes, the outdoor burn ban is lifted effective immediately as of 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12.

The Team Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet states the following burn bans remain in place:

  • Barren
  • Logan
  • Mercer
  • Todd

In addition, Kentucky Forest Fire Hazard Season remains active through Dec. 15., creating limitations rather than a total ban on outdoor burning.

During this time, officials say it is unlawful for a person to “set fire to or procure another to set fire to any flammable material capable of spreading fire, located in or within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland, except between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., prevailing local time or when the ground is covered in snow.”

Burn bans may be lifted by executive order once sufficient rainfall has been recorded within each county. News 40 will provide additional updates as they are released.
