BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The 14th district had a new head coaching position come open near the end of April, and on Monday that role was filled out in the Swamp.

Shawn Savage is the next Greenwood Gators boys basketball head coach and he comes from just down the road at the home of the Purples.

Last season, Savage served as the head coach of Bowling Green Junior High’s boys basketball team and lead the squad to a 2026 district title.

He also served as an assistant for the high school varsity team for eight seasons, including Bowling Green’s runner-up finish at the 2025 state tournament.

Savage was born and raised in Bowling Green and is a graduate of Campbellsville University.

Now he’s set to take over a Gators squad that is coming off having the 3rd best record in the 4th region, and he shared what he wants the team to know about the kind culture he intends to create as new head coach.

“ My message to them is just that we’re going to build character, build a family,” Savage said. “I want Greenwood to be a family of past, present, and current Gators. (I want to) let them know that I’m here for them on the court, off the court and whatever it is that they may need. If it’s just a conversation or basketball tips, I’m here for them and I’m here to make sure that their high school experience and after high school is everything they want it to be.”
