Russellville man charged with fleeing police, reckless driving

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – A Russellville man is facing multiple charges, including fleeing police.
According to a uniform citation, while driving westbound on Highland Lick Road in Russellville on Thursday, the Logan County Sheriff’s Department observed a vehicle swerve into their lane of travel.
Authorities say as a result, a deputy had to swerve into a ditch to avoid a head on collision.
The citation says the deputy caught up with the vehicle and saw it was unable to maintain its lane.
According to the citation, the deputy attempted a traffic stop, however, the vehicle continued toward Bethel Street.
Authorities say the vehicle continued traveling for about one mile without stopping.
The vehicle then partially pulled over on the Hopkinsville Road bridge, authorities say. The citation says as the deputy approached the vehicle, it took off again before stopping.
Upon contact with the driver, 54-year-old Jorge Mireles of Russellville, authorities say Mireles smelled strongly of alcoholic beverages.
Authorities say Mireles refused to exit the vehicle, leading the deputy to cut his seat belt and remove him to place him under arrest.
Due to an ongoing severe thunderstorm, authorities say Standard Field Sobriety Testing was not conducted.
Mireles was transported to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office to be identified and was later taken to the Logan County Detention Center.
He is charged with reckless driving, no registration plates, failure to produce insurance card, second-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, resisting arrest, failure to notify address change to Department of Transportation, license to be in possession and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/substance, first offense.
