Man accused of robbing someone of his last cigarette

Beck Fatzinger never got to finish the cigarette he was smoking on a recent Saturday afternoon while walking to his car in the 100 block of East 12th Avenue.

He told Bowling Green police a man approached him an demanded a cigarette. When Fatzinger told the man he was smoking his last one, the man displayed a box cutter and threatened to cut him if he didn’t hand over the cigarette.

Fatzinger took the cigarette from his mouth and handed it over to the man later identified as Lester May, 61, of Bowling Green, according to May’s arrest citation.

When police caught up to May, they said they found a box cutter on him, he admitted to asking someone for a cigarette and said it was given to him willingly, according to his arrest citation.

Wednesday, a Warren County grand jury indicted May on one count of first-degree robbery. He was given a $5,000 unsecured bond which he posted that day and has been released from the Warren County Regional Jail.

An arraignment in the case is scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 29.
