Graves County man accused of strangling baseball umpire

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. – A Graves County man is accused of strangling a baseball umpire.

According to a social media post, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office responded to a possible assault of an umpire at the Lone Oak Baseball and Softball Fields on May 21 at approximately 9 pm.

Deputies say the suspect fled the scene before they arrived.

The victim told police that a parent was upset over the umpiring in an 11-year-old baseball game.

The victim and witnesses say the suspect is 48-year-old Keith Peek, of Symsonia.

Peek allegedly placed the victim in a chokehold. Witnesses say the victim’s face turned purple. The victim also sustained a chipped tooth.

MCSO deputies traveled to Graves County to locate Peek with the assistance of the Graves County Sheriff’s Office. They were unable to locate Peek.

According to the post, Peek turned himself in at the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office on May 22.

Peek was arrested and charged with first-degree assault of a sports official, first-degree strangulation, menacing, and third-degree terroristic threatening.

Peek was lodged at the McCracken County jail. He is no longer listed as an inmate.

MCSO says additional charges could be filed.

The investigation is ongoing.
