Glasgow natives turn 90 on the Fourth of July: A journey into the lives of Roy and George Bertram
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This Fourth of July celebrates America’s 250th anniversary. It also is a special day shared by two Glasgow natives.
“The Fourth of July is our birthday. We were born on that day in Glasgow, Kentucky, in 1936,” said George Bertram, sitting next to his brother, Roy Bertram.
George and Roy are turning 90 years old on Saturday, July 4. Nine decades later, the two share a bond that no one can break.
“We are very close. We love each other dearly, and if you want to fight one of us, you better get ready to whip both of us,” Roy Bertram said.
Whether it was working for the IRS, delivering mail and having their own income tax business, the biggest advice they offer is serving your community and looking out for your own health.
“Always work. Hard work and doing what the doctors tell me and going to the gym, that’s what keeps me alive,” they said together.
Though the two womb mates share a lot, they have personal lives but always come together as a family no matter the differences.
“We’ve just always been a close-knit family, we get along, everybody gets along. Nobody’s mad and nobody. We used to fight when we were younger but like he said when we got tired it was all over and we forgot it 10 minutes later,” they both said.
As they reach a new milestone in their lives, the two say they have had one great ride and look forward to what’s to come.
“We had a good time, and if the sun doesn’t come up tomorrow, we’ll have a good time,” Roy said.
The Bertram twins are celebrating their birthday at the UAW Hall.
Happy Birthday to Roy and George Betram!
