Operation Pride raises flag in front of new Warren County Public Schools Impact Center
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With America’s 250th birthday around the corner, Operation Pride held another flag raising ceremony Thursday morning in front of the new Warren County Public Schools Impact Center.
City officials, community members and students and faculty of Warren County Public Schools gathered to witness the flag being raised alongside Interstate 65.
This is a part of Operation Prides “Beautifi-65” project, adding flags, landscaping, fences, and welcome signs along I-65 welcoming travelers into Bowling Green.
There are several 60-foot long American flags along I-65, with the one in front of the new Impact Center adding to the total. To put into perspective just how big these flags are, each of the 13 red and white stripes are over two feet tall.
Greenwood High School’s Color Guard was in attendance to present the colors and another Warren County Public School Student sang the National Anthem as the flag began to ascend in the air for the vehicles driving along part of the 1,100-mile stretch of I-65 to see.
With a very special Fourth of July approaching, what better way to begin the celebration than with raising a massive flag within the community.
“It’s perfect timing,” said Mike Buchanon, board co-chair of Operation Pride. “With the 250th anniversary of the United States of America right here on the Fourth of July, have a 130-foot tall flag pole and a 60-foot long flag go up right here on I-65. I-65 is 1,100 miles long, and this is the most unique and special community along the way.”
