Getting ready for the lunar eclipse
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Saros 138 Partial Lunar Eclipse is set for tonight, starting at 9:38 Central time.
It will peak just after 11 o’clock…11:12pm to be exact.
It’s a partial eclipse because the Earth’s shadow will only cover part of the moon…
And the eastern half of the United States will be in an excellent position to see the eclipse.
Lunar eclipses, or an eclipse of the moon, happens when the Sun, Earth and moon are lined up, with the Earth between the Sun and moon.
Since the earth will block the light from the Sun that would normally illuminate the moon, it won’t appear bright yellow or white like normal.
Instead, the moon will appear red but will not look like a full moon since it’s a partial eclipse.
By the way, Saros refers to a measure of time and the next partial eclipse in this series will be in Twenty-forty-four.
