DMV coming to Glasgow
GLASGOW, Ky.- A new DMV is coming to Barren County. The DMV will be a part of the financial plan in the new fiscal year starting in July.
Barren County Judge Executive, Jamie Bewley Byrd, said this takes the weight off of residents and surrounding counties by giving a relief of driving and long waiting times.
“We are just thankful to bring the opportunity back here to our citizens and surrounding counties and I’m glad that we’ve been heard. As this is a need for our citizens and we’re thankful for the jobs also it will bring,” Judge Byrd said.
The next step is finding a location to house operations. Once that is found, their goal is to start the building process. She said officials are exploring local options that are owned by the city.
Driver licensing services switched from circuit courts to reginal offices in June 2022. According to the press release during 2022’s transition, there are 23 reginal offices across the state of Kentucky, one of those offices being Warren County in Bowling Green, KY.
“A lot of our citizens choose not to go that one because its either busy or not an area they can get to, so, they’ve been going to Columbia or different areas. It’s an inconvenience for our citizens because you’re having people take off a day at work to go do these things,” Judge Executive Byrd said.
Options to renew also include renewing through the mail or online, however some people prefer to be in person.
“Number one you’re in your own community. You’re not having to spend 30 to 45 minutes on the road to go to bowling green, wait in line there and not really knowing what you’re going to get in to and if you don’t have everything you need you have to come back,” said Brandon Davis, a nearby resident.
