LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – A man was arrested in Russellville after allegedly fleeing police through multiple counties and states.

According to a release, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office was requested by the Todd County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) to assist in a vehicle pursuit on Tuesday at approximately 4:15 pm. The pursuit began in Greenbrier, Tennessee.

The Greenbrier Police Department attempted to stop a motorcycle earlier in the day, according to the release.

The pursuit continued through Robertson County, Tennessee, and into Logan County, near Keysburg, on KY 102.

LCSO Sheriff Stephen Stratton says the motorcycle traveled through Logan County and into Todd County on KY 848. The Todd County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop the vehicle, but the motorcyclist continued northbound on US 79 toward Logan County.

Stratton says deputies set up near the intersection of US 79 and KY 102 to assist in the pursuit. The motorcycle turned back onto KY 102 toward Allensville and continued through Keysburg and into Tennessee. LCSO and TCSO terminated the pursuit after the motorcycle crossed state lines.

A Logan County Drug Task Force agent located the motorcycle and motorcyclist near the intersection of South Main Street and 9th Street in Russellville just after 6 pm, according to the release.

The agent says the suspect, 44-year-old Joseph Dale Brignac, of Ashland City, Tennessee, attempted to get back on the motorcycle and flee the scene. Brignac allegedly resisted arrest and was tased “multiple times.”

Officers say Brignac ignored commands from the agent and “repeatedly reached into his right pants pocket while the officer was attempting to take him into custody.” Brignac allegedly possessed a loaded revolver and ammunition. A handgun was also located in Brignac’s backpack, according to the release.

After additional officers arrived, Brignac was taken into custody and transported to Med Center Health at Russellville for treatment of minor injuries.

Brignac allegedly told authorities that “he had intentionally attempted to retrieve the firearm during the encounter in an effort to provoke officers into using deadly force against him.”

Stratton says Brignac is a convicted felon and cannot legally possess firearms.

Brignac is charged with five counts of wanton endangerment, first degree (police officer), two counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, two counts of carrying a concealed deadly weapon, one count of disorderly conduct, second degree, one count of menacing and one count of resisting arrest.

Stratton says Brignac faces additional criminal charges from the Greenbrier Police Department, the Todd County Sheriff’s Office, and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

“This incident placed our deputies and our law enforcement partners in an extraordinarily dangerous situation. The suspect fled through multiple jurisdictions, resisted arrest, attempted to draw a loaded handgun while officers were taking him into custody, and later admitted his intent was to point that weapon at Agent Wright in an effort to force law enforcement to shoot him. Faced with a deadly threat, our officers demonstrated remarkable discipline, restraint, and professionalism. Because of their actions, no officers or innocent citizens were seriously injured, the suspect received medical treatment for his injuries, and a violent convicted felon is now in custody. I could not be prouder of every officer involved. Their actions undoubtedly prevented what could have been a tragic outcome,” said Stratton in a statement.

The investigation is ongoing.
