Two cars stolen, several broken into in Warren County neighborhood

BOWLING GREEN Ky. – The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is working several different reports of stolen cars and car break ins from overnight in the Summit subdivision and surrounding areas.

It’s a beautiful neighborhood manicured lawns and backyard pools and a place where some residents say they trust their neighbors and feel safe.

Now, the community is shaken after one family had two cars stolen right out of their driveway and several others had items stolen out of their vehicles.

One neighbor spoke to News40 and asked to remain anonymous.

“I have four kids, you know, they can’t, I’m not sure that they can just play in the backyard, and when they do I make sure that they are right there but in my previous neighborhood we didn’t have any kind of vandalism or break-ins like this, so it is it makes me think, you know, if we made the right decision.”

According to Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower, this is something criminal groups have done in the past.

“These individuals come up they pull on the door handle. If the cars blocked, then they walk away. They don’t want to draw attention to themselves. (They) don’t want to break out glass … want dogs barking … don’t want people coming outside to investigate, and so their primary goal is to be as quick and silent as possible and get in and out of these vehicles and to obtain as much merchandise and property as they can,” said Hightower.

He says, while you may feel safe where you live, locking your door is always an extra layer of protection.

Neighbors say they are upping their security systems, being more vigilant in locking doors, and keeping a sharper eye out from now one.

“We already lock our doors, but we did turn the sensitivity up on our alarms in our cameras so that it catches more everything basically versus just what’s right in front of our house you know.”

Local law-enforcement agents are working together to find out whether the steps are connected.

So far, the stolen cars have not been found. If you see one of the missing cars, a Toyota Camry with tinted windows a WKU decal in the back window and a Ford Edge with a Russell license plate, contact the sheriff’s office.
