Calf Rescue Smiths Grove

SMITHS GROVE, Ky. – The Smiths Grove Fire Department rescued a calf from a sinkhole Saturday evening.

According to a social media post, firefighters responded to a report of an animal incident at approximately 7:19 pm.

Firefighters determined that the calf had fallen into the sinkhole and began attempted to extract it. Chief Brandon Eadens excavated the area and other personnel worked to clear debris.

The calf was six feet into the ground and stuck to the right and in an angle. The calf was unable to walk out on its own. Firefighters then got into the sinkhole and continued to dig the calf out.

Firefighters secured the calf to a tow strap and removed from the sinkhole, according to the post.

Once out of the sinkhole, the calf was safely reunited with its mother.

The calf did not sustain injuries.
