GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. – A Graves County jury is recommending a 20-year prison sentence for a man found guilty of multiple drug charges.

According to a social media post by the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, last week, 39-year-old Brandon I. Cavette was found guilty of trafficking over five pounds of marijuana, trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and being a persistent felony offender.

In addition, authorities say Cavette has a pending case where he is charged with attempting to hire individuals from Houston, Texas to kill former Graves County Commonwealth Attorney Richie Kemp. According to the sheriff’s office, this was retaliation for Kemp’s efforts to prosecute Cavette on the charges he was recently convicted of.

The arrest, which occurred in January 2025, stemmed from a search that was conducted at Cavette’s home on Key Bottom Road in Graves County, according to authorities.

Authorities say at the time of his arrest, Grave’s County deputies located around 15 pounds of processed marijuana, 4,226 ecstasy pills and 3,255 etizolam pills, along with $8,000 in cash.

According to the sheriff’s office, the alleged threats made by Cavette were obtained by audio recordings.

Cavette was found to also have felony convictions in additional states for drug trafficking, authorities say.

His formal sentencing will be at a later date.
