Bowling Green man arrested following standoff, charged with burglary and sexual abuse

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is charged after a standoff with police Thursday.
According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department responded to Loop Street at approximately 2:17 pm to a complaint of a man breaking into a residence and sexually assaulting a victim.
The victim told police that the suspect, 39-year-old Alberto Vazquez-Hernandez, of Bowling Green, previously lived at the home with them.
Vazquez-Hernandez allegedly broke into the back door of the home, approached the victim, and attempted to pull their pants down, according to the uniform citation.
The victim told police that Vazquez-Hernandez fled the scene in a truck to his home on Oak Grove Way.
Police responded to the home and saw Vazquez-Hernandez entering the back door.
Officers say Vazquez-Hernandez refused to exit the home.
According to the uniform citation, a search warrant was obtained, and the BGPD Crisis Negotiation Team and Critical Response Team responded to the home.
Following a standoff, the BGPD executed the search warrant and arrested Vazquez-Hernandez at 9:19 pm.
Police say Vazquez-Hernandez told them he borrowed the truck to pick up his belongings from the victim’s home on Loop Street. He claims the victim was not home when he retrieved his belongings.
Vazquez-Hernandez said he later returned to the victim’s home to tell them that he had retrieved the items, according to the citation.
Police say Vazquez-Hernandez told them he knocked on the front door and back door before returning to the front door, where he says the victim’s child let him in.
According to the uniform citation, Vazquez-Hernandez told police he entered the victim’s bedroom to retrieve more of his belongings. He says the victim asked him, “to leave or the police will be called.”
Authorities say Vazquez-Hernandez told them he agreed to leave the victim’s home and returned to Oak Grove Way.
Vazquez-Hernandez told police he ran inside his home and did not respond to officers because “he knew he was getting arrested and was trying to avoid immigration,” according to the citation.
Vazquez-Hernandez was lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail and is charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree sexual abuse.
The investigation is ongoing.
