WNKY News 40 Health Report: Managing Anxiety
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s an illness that can lead to other illnesses…anxiety.
And, according to the National Alliance of Mental Illnesses, nearly one-third of adults int he United States experience anxiety at some point in their lives.
Dr. Christian Schrader, a Psychiatrist with Graves-Gilbert Clinic say anxiety has a purpose and that is survival. He also explains while it is a survival mechanism, it can be triggered too often, leading to problems in everyday life.
But, there are ways to cope-such as exercise or engaging in a hobby.
But, if those measures don’t work, it’s important to know the signs of severe anxiety, such as your work being disrupted, personal relationships being threatened or if you feel physically ill. Those a
re signs you might need to talk to your healthcare provider or a healthcare provider who specializes in behavioral health since there are treatments that range from counselling to medications.
