Kentucky Fish and Wildlife shares summer kayak safety tips
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – To ensure the community stays safe, News 40 sat down with Kentucky Fish and Wildlife to learn a few tips on kayaking safety.
Last week, first responders were called out to help two juveniles near Drakes Creek. With warmer weather, more people may venture out onto the water, and fish and wildlife experts recommend staying prepared.
For example, experts stress the importance of knowing the temperature of the water to avoid hypothermia and the importance of having a contingency plan to help you and your loved ones remain safe.
Trevor Lowe, a game warden with Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, says “If you don’t have a plan, you could get lost. A lot of these properties next to these creeks take several miles to get back to a roadway or to get to a residence. It takes a couple of miles. But it’s important.”
