BRASS launches mobile unit to bring Domestic Violence services directly to survivors

FRANKLIN, Ky. – BRASS, Inc. is expanding its efforts to support survivors of domestic violence with a new Mobile Advocacy Response Unit designed to bring services directly into communities across south-central Kentucky.

The organization celebrated the launch of the unit Tuesday in Simpson County, the first stop in a series of ribbon cuttings planned across BRASS’ ten-county service region.

The mobile unit, nicknamed “Mary,” will provide crisis intervention, safety planning, legal advocacy and community referrals for survivors who may face barriers traveling to one of BRASS’ three brick-and-mortar locations.

BRASS CEO Tori Henninger said the idea came from the challenge of serving a large geographic area with limited office locations.

“We were like, how do we navigate having ten counties and only three brick and mortar locations?” Henninger said.

The unit was made possible through a $68,000 Growth Grant from the Women’s Fund of South Central Kentucky, along with a vehicle discount from Camping World.

Henninger said the mobile office will allow advocates to meet survivors in public locations throughout the region while still providing privacy and confidentiality.

The unit will serve six counties that currently do not have a BRASS office location, giving survivors the ability to access resources closer to home.

BRASS serves a region spanning nearly 4,000 square miles, and the organization says distance can be one of the biggest obstacles preventing survivors from seeking help.

The ribbon cutting series will continue throughout 2026, with events planned in Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson and Warren counties.
