Bowling Green man charged with fleeing police, drug possession
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is facing charges after authorities say he fled law enforcement.
According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department was patrolling the 100 block of West 15th Avenue near 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Police say they observed a male subject wearing all black near the back garage of a home. Police say the garage at the address has been condemned by city code enforcement.
Officers say they were only aware of an older female that lives at the home.
Police say when they approached the back of the house in a cruiser, the male turned his head and began “walking away in an evasive manner.”
Police say an officer exited the vehicle to make contact with the male at the front of the house.
Upon reaching that area, police say they saw two to three subjects running west on West 15th Avenue. One of the subjects, later identified as 19-year-old Jemetrec Hampton, ran into a fence several houses down, police say.
Police say they stated to stop running multiple times to Hampton as they pursued him.
Authorities say Hampton dropped two backpacks as he ran. After advising Hampton police would use a taser if he kept running, police say he continued to run, and a taser was deployed.
Hampton was placed into custody.
In Hampton’s backpacks, police say they found a a tube, a plastic pipe, a glass pipe, a glass pill grinder and a THC vape. Both pipes contained suspected marijuana that had been burned, police say.
Hampton was transported to the Warren County Regional Jail.
Hampton faces charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, possession of marijuana, third-degree fleeing or evading police and drug paraphernalia – buy/possess.
