Glasgow fire chief discusses difference between burn bans and restrictions

GLASGOW, Ky.- We are currently in Kentucky wildfire hazard season until April 30, and one local fire official is reminding the public to burn responsibly.

Burn bans can be anywhere. Whether you’re on a campsite or within city limits,  experts say that this time of year, the Kentucky Department of Forestry has a burn ban in place that states, ” You cannot burn between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.”

Chief Lucas Tinsley with the Glasgow Fire Department says, “Things can get out of hand. And that’s where we get involved. And we are putting property, people’s property and your neighbor’s property, at stake, especially in areas where the fire hazard is very high. We’re not saying that you can’t burn. We just want to encourage you to do it properly.”

If you live within city limits, you can get a burn permit by contacting the Glasgow Fire Department and by meeting certain requirements. You can burn brush and limbs but no leaves or lumber.
