Phthalates can affect a newborn’s brain development

A new study may have found how exposure to chemicals known as phthalates (tha-layts) during pregnancy can affect a newborn’s brain development. Phthalates are synthetic chemicals used in everyday products for food packaging, personal care, toys, and more.

The report looked at the relationship between a mother’s phthalate exposure and a newborn’s neurological development. It found exposure during pregnancy, altered the metabolism of key factors in brain development. The study was published Wednesday in the journal Nature Communications.
