WKU sorority presents check to Lifeskills
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Several Western Kentucky University social work students are making a significant impact through their support of Life Skills Wellness Connection.
At Tuesday’s check presentation, it was clear that the help provided goes beyond monetary donations. WKU’s Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society raised funds after a professor and his students recognized a need in the Bowling Green community.
Dr. Jay Gabbard, a professor in the WKU social work program, emphasized the importance of students engaging directly with the community rather than just learning from textbooks. For students like Shu Wah, the experience has been empowering and inspiring, especially in working with the homeless population.
Wah shared how the project sparked a new passion for giving back to the community.
Amy Hintonay, LifeSkills community program manager, highlighted that the people they serve often develop a desire to help others as well. Hintonay believes this creates a cycle of support where individuals who have received help are motivated to give back, offering hope and understanding to those in need.
